Same Body, Different Voices...
A cheat sheet into how your Human Design authority feels in your body.
Do you ever hear someone say, “I just listen to my gut” and think… “Wait, what? Why is mine never speaking to me?” Nothing’s broken, you probably just have a different authority placement in Human Design.
When it comes to decision-making, your body already knows. Think of it as a sensing instrument that tunes you to your intuition.
In Human Design, your inner authority is the primary way your body makes decisions. When I refer to your body’s “voice,” I mean the sensation pattern that authority uses to speak. The voice changes by authority while the underlying signal stays consistent. If you learn where it lands, how it feels, and how fast it moves, decision-making gets simpler.
Below is a somatic map of each inner authority with a short practice you can try today.
Quick note: If you have Emotional authority, give your wave time. Other signals can confirm, but clarity comes after the rise and fall.
Emotional Solar Plexus:
Where it lands: solar plexus and chest.
How it feels: a wave. Clarity feels warm, spacious, and steady. Not‑yet clarity feels buzzy or clenched.
Tempo: slow is smooth. Sleep on it and check again at neutral.
Practice: For one day, name your state every few hours about the same decision. Write one sentence each time. After a night of sleep, read them back and circle any ‘yes’ that repeats at calm. If your ‘yes’ only shows up at the peak of emotion or drops at the trough, wait. Choose only when the signal stays warm and even.
Sacral:
Where it lands: lower belly and pelvis.
How it feels: a gut hum, a forward pull, natural sounds like uh huh or uh uh.
Tempo: instant and repeatable. Ask again and the same answer returns.
Practice: Stand with soft knees. Read a list of options out loud. Let your belly answer with sound or a lean. Mark every clear yes and do one tiny action within 24 hours. Notice if energy grows as you engage. If it collapses, that was a ‘no’ dressed up as a ‘should’.
Splenic:
Where it lands: ribs, skin, breath.
How it feels: a quiet, precise ping. Calm, not dramatic. It fades if you chase it.
Tempo: now or not. The first hit is the message.
Practice: Ask one clear question. Note the very first micro‑sensation and give it three words, like ‘light’ and ‘open’ or ‘prickly’ and ‘tight’. Close the journal and move. Do not re‑ask. If your mind starts building a case, return to the first three words and honor them.
Ego or Heart:
Where it lands: sternum, heartbeat, jaw.
How it feels: a clean surge of I want or I will. It feels doable and worth the cost. If it is wrong, it feels brittle or performative.
Tempo: quick yes, then a short rest to confirm sustainability.
Practice: Say the real cost and effort out loud. Place a hand on your chest and repeat I am willing. If your chest stays engaged and your voice stays steady after a short walk, proceed. If you feel puffed up or defensive, wait.
Self‑Projected (G Center):
Where it lands: center of chest and throat.
How it feels: identity resonance. The right choice sounds like I am, I love, this is me. Your body relaxes as you speak.
Tempo: clarity emerges in live conversation with the right person.
Practice: Choose one trusted listener. Walk while you talk. Say what you want in simple sentences that start with ‘I’. When your voice gets clear and your shoulders drop, stop there. Do not keep talking past the click.
Mental or Environment:
Where it lands: the whole nervous system through place and people.
How it feels: the right environment makes your body quiet and your thinking simple. The wrong one feels staticky or drained.
Tempo: clarity through sounding‑board conversations after sampling places.
Practice: Take your decision to two environments. Sit with a sounding board and speak it through. Notice where your breath deepens and your skin feels relaxed. Choose the option that stays clear after you leave the conversation.
Lunar (Reflector):
Where it lands: the whole body over time.
How it feels: clarity is patterned. Right choices keep feeling right as the Moon moves. Wrong ones degrade with exposure.
Tempo: one lunar cycle, with four check‑ins.
Practice: Write a one‑line check at New Moon, First Quarter, Full Moon, and Last Quarter. If your ‘yes’ is consistent at all four, proceed. If the signal weakens, wait or refine the decision.
To recap…
Location, tempo, and repeatability at a glance. Use this grid to gut‑check a signal in seconds (paste it into your notes app, along with all your friend’s HD details).
Emotional: chest, slow wave, not repeatable until neutral.
Sacral: belly, instant, repeatable.
Splenic: ribs and skin, instant, one‑and‑done.
Ego or Heart: sternum, quick surge, confirm after rest.
Self‑Projected: chest and throat, clarity while speaking, ends with a click.
Mental or Environment: whole system via place, clarity in the right setting, confirm after leaving.
Lunar: whole body over time, patterned clarity, confirm across the month.
